"Since I have been working for Jicaro, I have had the opportunity to observe new birds in different tours. I consider the Purple Gallinule one of the nicest birds that I've ever seen. Despite the fact that they are shy, you can see them in the surrounding islands during the kayaking trips. The Limpkin is another bird that I just added to my personal list as well as the Violaceous Trogon. And what can I say about Osprey! They are simply great! Their eye sight, agility and the way that they skim over the water’s surface to catch some fish is just incredible. Many other migratory bird species can be observed in this time of the year, like Blue-winged Teal, Orchard Oriole, Baltimore Oriole, Prothonotary Warbler. The only thing I can say after birding for long time in Nicaragua is: Jicaro and the surrounding areas are a bird watcher’s paradise!"

Shown here are the Osprey, Limpkin and Gallinule in that order, photographed by Fabian Espinoza, sustainability coordinator and tour guide, more about whom you can read here.
