HOLIDAYS AND HISTORY

Two Important holidays were celebrated in Nicaragua this month. First on September 14th we commemorated the 154th anniversary of the San Jacinto Battle that occurred in San Jacinto farm located a few kilometer from our capital. In this battle, Central American countries joined to stop the intention of William Walker who wanted to establish his rule in Centro America, making English the official language and instituting slavery, among other precepts. On September 15th we commemorated the 189th anniversary of the independence of Centro America from the Spanish kingdom. In remembrance, an act of independence is celebrated in all the schools in Nicaragua. Part of the celebration consists in group of bands that combine music and dances composed by students from the schools. When you come to visit Jicaro Island Ecolodge, we invite you to take a Granada city tour where you will discover more information about our Nicaraguan History.
